Wrappin’ it all up
I really don’t know what to think about going home, I’m really excited to see my friends and family but I’m also going to miss trying different foods and just seeing the world. I have absolutely loved almost all the food we have encountered during the trip, but the trip did not fix my hate for sauteed spinach. I really wish I could enjoy eating spinach. But I do have a newfound love for sugar snap peas. What I’m most excited for when I get home is seeing my friends, dog, and family. It was really refreshing when my grandma and my friends came to visit me on the trip so I might be most excited to see my dog. He is the one that I have gone the longest without seeing. But there is no doubt that I’m excited to see everybody again, especially the people that didn’t visit me.
One of my full trip highlights is all the awesome history we have encountered, such as the great Pyramids of Giza, and ancient crosses from the age of exploration, and an old smuggling port from the colonial times, Colonia del Sacramento. I’m weird about history I really don’t like American history but I absolutely love all European history and just history around the world. My top history highlight would be the Pyramids of Giza. Before we went I already loved Egyptian history but after I saw the Pyramids my love for Egyptian history skyrocketed. After getting a tour around the great Pyramid we went inside one of the smaller ones. I don’t understand how they got the big sarcophagus down into the chamber, the way down was super steep. I highly doubt that they slid a solid gold sarcophagus into the Pyramid.
There was so much stuff we did on the trip it’s hard to believe that we did it all, and with only one trip to the hospital “so far”. At home I only get to go to a Google once a year but not on the trip, any place that we went that had a Google we went. One of my favorite things about Google’s is the diversity and the effort put into the decorations. Every Google has a different looking Android to greet you, and the coolest part about that is all the Andriods are dressed like the locals. Also any of the Google offices we went to never had the same games or pinball machines.
Most of the places we went to had really awesome exotic animals, for example in India there was the tiger, and Namibia/Botswana had the giraffe, and Thailand had the asian elephant. I loved seeing the animals but I really hated the hunt for them. Most of the time it required a bumpy, dusty, and hot ride in a safari jeep. Many “game drives” we went on we woke up very early and I absolutely hated it. And when we did wake up at sunrise to go on a game drive we never saw anything until like 8:15. It was still worth it to see the animals if you are lucky enough to see them.
All of the celebrations on the trip we have encountered have been way more enthusiastic than anything I have seen at home. For example, on the second night of the trip we celebrated New Years Eve in Uruguay. There was so much light in the sky it could blind a baby. It was like a giant loud rainbow ate the sky. After New Years Eve we went to check out the small celebration going on it the town square, that was like the 4th of July celebration but not quite as fun. But it was nice to have a delicious ice cream place a 2 minute walk away. I think the reason I loved it is because the fireworks we have that are illegal at home are legal there. After that the next real celebration we ran into was Carnival in Sao Paulo, that was super crazy, I could tell that everyone was committed. The floats that we saw had so much detail, and people at home don’t work so hard on projects like that. I will be really excited for our next fourth of July celebration to compare it to these memories.
I am ready to go home. I am so excited to get back to my normal life and to see everybody for the first time in 7 months. I am really psyched to get home but I’m also a little nervous to get back to school. And the downside of getting home is I will have to spend ¼ of my time at the store looking for clothes and school stuff. I haven’t been in a real classroom with a real teacher in 7 months, and it’s a new school so I’m not sure what to expect. I am extremely disappointed about using my very limited summer vacation to go shopping but there are some upsides to going back to my continent shopping, I do get my own computer.
