I was in the car shortly after crossing the Nile, and when I looked to the left what I saw looked like a gigantic spike coming out of the ground.  What I saw was the Great Pyramids of Giza.  I have been reading about Egypt and the Pyramids for 3 years.  And when I saw the Pyramids it was nothing in comparison to what my books said.  

The Pyramids are still standing after nearly 5000 years of punishing time.  The Great Pyramids were built in about 2560 BCE.  The Pyramids are the oldest of the wonders of the ancient world and the only ones still standing.  Ancient Egypt had 3 distinct stages in history, the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom.  The Pyramids of Giza were built mainly in the Old Kingdom but some were built in the Middle Kingdom.  The 3 main Pyramids at Giza were all built by one family.  They were pretty smart about where they chose to build their Pyramids, they built their Pyramids on a plateau at Giza “AKA the Giza plateau”.  I think they did that so it did not sink into the sand and so they can the get the rocks they needed.  

We got an experience that not many people get to do, and it was one of the most awesome things we did on this trip.  Not only did we get to see the Pyramids but we also got to see the inside of Menkaure’s Pyramid.  Inside of the Pyramid wasn’t very lively it was empty, but it still awesome to see what it looked like on the inside and imagine it with the stuff in it.  

For all you ladies out there that think that only the pharaohs got Pyramids you don’t have to worry the queen’s got Pyramids too but they were a lot smaller.  But hey it’s better than nothing.  The queen’s got a huge valley called the Valley of the Queens.

So back to the real world. We got to ride a camel, really close to the Great Pyramids and that was really awesome too, but it can’t top going inside a Pyramid.  We saw a  boat that was apparently really important to the pharaoh who owned it.  I didn’t think it would be that cool when I heard about it, but when I saw it my mind was blown.  I thought it would be like an Egyptian canoe but it was huge!!  It was almost as long as a cruise ship but it wasn’t nearly as tall.  Let’s just say I wanted to ask the desk clerk if I could buy it.  

I’m sure everybody’s heard of the Great Sphinx it sounds amazing, it is amazing, but it is not nearly as big as it sounds.  I thought that it would be as tall as Menkaure’s Pyramid .  But it still is awesome. The Sphinx is a cat with a pharaoh’s head.  The reason that it is so popular in Egyptian history is because it represents protection.  Egyptians worshiped cats because they thought they were the strongest animals.  I think the reason why Sphinx marks protection is because the cat means it is powerful, and I think the pharaoh’s head means the power is directed towards the pharaoh. We did a lot more in Egypt but I let my parents say all that stuff.  I hope you enjoyed it, see you again soon.  Bye.
